Frequently Asked Questions
What is a hash and what happens if I go over the included hash count?
Each successful API request counts as a single hash. We will notify you if you approach or exceed your included hashes, and additional requests will be billed on a per-request basis.
What happens if I exceed the hashing rate per second?
Each plan provides a committed hashing rate in hashes per second, but this is not a hard limit. Our servers will happily process additional requests per second, and we operate with significant spare capacity to support bursts of requests with low latency. If your request rate exceeds the committed rate for an extended duration, we will first notify you, and our servers may increase latency for requests which exceed the committed rate.
What happens if I decide to cancel?
Blind Hashing is designed so there is no lock-in, and you can cancel at any time. You can simply uninstall the TapLink library from your system, and recover your original hashes using your offline private key. Your final monthly statement will be prorated based on your cancellation date.
How fast does Blind Hash respond to each request?
We measure performance as the 95th percentile duration of a request, from the first byte in, to the last byte out, which we call Processing Time. The 95th percentile is the duration under which 95% of all requests complete, where the median latency is significantly lower. The network latency between your server and ours will add some additional delay, which you can measured with an ICMP ping.
Why are more lookups per hash better?
Each additional data pool lookup magnifies the effect of any missing data during an attack. With 8 data pool lookups, an attacker who could theoretically steal 50% of our data pool would only succeed in checking 0.4% of their dictionary (1 in 256). With 64 data pool lookups, the attack rate is reduced to less than 1 in 10,000,000
Can you support my authentication library?
Absolutely! The Blind Hashing API is trivially easy to support as each blind hash is a single HTTPS request, with a simple JSON response. We are constantly adding additional libraries and plugins to make Blind Hashing as accessible as possible for every language and platform. If your language or platform is not currently listed, please contact us and we can help get you started.
